Description

Overview

The BD/BDM30-C8 Series electric multi-turn intelligent actuator represents the perfect synergy between mechanical strength and digital intelligence. As a flagship product from the Suzhou Bonray manufacturing facility, this multi-turn electric actuator provides a complete solution for automating quarter-turn and multi-turn valves across the globe. In addition, we design it to operate reliably in demanding conditions, offering a standard IP68 rating for water and dust ingress. However, beyond the robust hardware, the true power lies in its intelligent software, which offers advanced diagnostics, flexible control algorithms, and seamless integration with modern process control systems. Therefore, whether you manage a large-scale refinery, a municipal water treatment plant, or a power station, this multi-turn electric actuator delivers the precision, safety, and connectivity your operations demand. Furthermore, its versatility extends to explosion-proof environments, with certified models for gas and dust hazardous areas, ensuring safety without compromising on functionality.

What is the standard ingress protection, and can this actuator be used in hazardous environments?

The standard electric multi-turn intelligent actuator carries an IP68 rating, meaning it withstands continuous immersion in water, thereby making it suitable for outdoor and wash-down applications. For hazardous areas, however, we offer a certified flameproof version. Specifically, this variant meets the standards for gas explosion protection (Ex db IIC T4 Gb) as well as dust explosion protection (Ex tb IIIC T130℃ Db), thereby allowing safe installation in Zone 1, 2 gas environments and Zone 21, 22 dust environments. To ensure proper selection, consult our factory to specify the correct model for your classification.

Features

  • Digital Control Capabilities: This multi-turn electric actuator excels in digital communication. By adding a fieldbus interface card at the factory, we enable it to connect directly to your plant’s network. The multi-turn electric actuator becomes a true “smart” device, sending back not just position and torque data, but also its entire health and diagnostic history to your DCS or PLC.

  • Advanced Protection Logic: We equip the multi-turn electric actuator with intelligent protection algorithms. The auto-phase correction feature automatically detects and compensates for the incoming power phase sequence, simplifying installation. The “valve stuck” protection momentarily disables torque sensing at the start of travel to break the valve free from a seated position. Furthermore, the actuator performs a “crash start” protection, adding a delay if it receives a command to reverse direction instantly, preventing unnecessary mechanical wear on the valve stem and gear train.

  • Dual Seal Design: Recognizing that installation and wiring are common points of moisture ingress, our engineers incorporated a dual-seal design in the terminal compartment. This means even with the terminal cover removed for wiring, the main electronics housing remains sealed. This level of foresight protects the sophisticated circuitry inside the multi-turn electric actuator from the environment, ensuring long-term reliability.

  • Lifetime Lubrication: The internal gear train of the multi-turn electric actuator utilizes premium lubricants, eliminating the need for regular re-greasing or oil changes. This reduces the total cost of ownership and removes a routine maintenance task from your schedule, ensuring consistent, smooth operation for the life of the unit.

  • Manual Override with Safety Interlock: The handwheel mechanism includes a unique anti-misoperation design. To engage the manual override, you must pull a safety pin, then push the handwheel into place. Releasing the pin automatically disengages the handwheel. This design prevents accidental manual operation during motorized cycling and includes a lockout point for using a padlock, adding a layer of safety during maintenance activities.

  • Data Logging for Predictive Maintenance: The multi-turn electric actuator functions as a data acquisition device. It logs total travel, number of cycles, motor run time, and a history of all alarms (e.g., over-torque, motor overheat). Plant engineers can access this data to understand valve performance trends and schedule maintenance proactively, rather than reactively.

Electric Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator BD/BDM30-C8 Specifications

  • Output Performance: Delivers a rated torque of 50 N.m to 3500 N.m. The output speed options range from 12 to 144 rpm. For linear motion applications (rising stem valves), when paired with a linear thrust base, we provide thrust outputs from 3.4 kN to 279.3 kN, with linear speeds ranging from 0.6 mm/s to 9.6 mm/s.

  • Control Inputs: Supports digital inputs for open, close, and stop commands using dry contacts or voltage signals (24V DC/220V AC). Also accepts a standard 4-20 mA analog setpoint for modulating control.

  • Feedback Outputs: Offers a 4-20 mA analog position feedback. Provides 4 configurable status relays (S1 to S4), which are bi-stable to retain state during a power failure. Additionally, an optional set of 4 non-latching relays (R1 to R4) and a dedicated fault relay provide extensive feedback to the control room.

  • Environmental Protection: Standard models feature IP68 enclosure protection. Flameproof models comply with Ex db IIC T4 Gb for gas and Ex tb IIIC T130℃ Db for dust hazardous zones.

  • Operating Temperature: Standard range -30°C to +70°C. The factory can customize for environments ranging from -60°C to +80°C upon request.

  • Wiring: Features a spacious terminal box with screw terminals for easy and secure connection of control and power cables.

  • Motor: Uses a high-starting-torque, low-inertia, totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) induction motor designed for the specific voltage and frequency requirements.

Matching with Gearbox

We engineer the BD/BDM-C8 Series Multi-turn Electric Actuator as a modular system, allowing it to interface seamlessly with various gearboxes from our product family. This modularity expands its application range to include almost any valve type.

  • Pairing with W & D Series for Part-Turn Valves: For applications like butterfly, ball, and plug valves, we combine the multi-turn electric actuator with either a W or D series worm gearbox. The selection depends on the required torque, speed, and mounting interface. Our factory experts can guide you through the torque charts to ensure the combined unit provides a safety margin above your valve’s maximum torque requirement. The result is a powerful, compact solution for quarter-turn control.

  • Pairing with A Series for Rising Stem Valves: When the application involves a gate or globe valve, we match the multi-turn electric actuator with an A series bevel gearbox. This unit provides a multi-turn output on a thrust base, designed to lift and lower the valve stem. We can tailor the thrust base and the size of the stem nut to your specific valve stem diameter and lead.

  • Efficiency and Torque Calculations: When you select a gearbox, we calculate the final output torque and speed for you. The efficiency of the gearbox (e.g., 85% for the A series, 30% for worm gears) is a key factor in this calculation. The Bonray team provides you with a complete performance data sheet for your specific actuator-gearbox combination, ensuring you have accurate information for system design.
