How do I choose between the On-off Multi-turn Actuator BD-C8 and BDM-C8 series?
The choice depends on your duty cycle and control requirements. Specifically, the on-off multi-turn actuator BD-C8 series (On-Off and Intermittent Modulating) is ideal for applications with up to 60 starts per hour and a 33.3% duty cycle. In contrast, the BDM-C8 Frequent Modulating type, with its solid-state relays and advanced cooling, handles up to 1200 starts per hour and a 50% duty cycle. Therefore, for modulating control on continuous processes, the BDM-C8 is the superior multi-turn electric actuator. Meanwhile, for simpler open/close tasks, the BD-C8 is a perfect fit.
On-off Multi-turn Actuator Features
We designed the BD150-C8 series on-off multi-turn actuator for maximum flexibility. The non-intrusive setup means you can commission the multi-turn electric actuator without ever opening the electrical cover, a significant advantage after installation in a difficult-to-reach location. The dual-seal design allows for safe wiring, even in dusty or wet environments, because the inner seal protects the electronics while you are working on the terminal block.
The clear dot-matrix display provides immediate, local feedback on torque and position, making setup and troubleshooting easy. The manual operation system includes a “pull-and-push” handwheel that is easy to engage and includes a lockout point, providing a secure method for manual override. These user-centric features, standard across all models from Suzhou Bonray, simplify both the initial installation and ongoing maintenance tasks.

Protect Function
All protective features listed for the BD150-C8 series on-off multi-turn actuator are standard. This means every multi-turn electric actuator from Bonray comes with automatic phase correction, phase loss protection, motor thermal protection, torque overload protection, and instantaneous reversal protection. You do not have to choose these as options; they are core to the design.
This comprehensive standard protection suite ensures that regardless of the model you select, you get a device that will actively prevent damage to itself and your valve. For example, the “valve seizure protection” is a standard feature that can help free a stuck valve without external intervention. This reliability-first approach is what you can expect from Suzhou Bonray.
Control
When you order your on-off multi-turn electric actuator, you determine its control capabilities by selecting the base type and any optional cards. The standard BD-C8 On-Off Type includes remote switch control and local control. For analog control, you must specify the BD-C8 Intermittent Modulating Type. For fieldbus capabilities, you select the appropriate bus card from the options (Profibus-DP, Modbus, etc.).
Model and Type
BD/BDM-C8 Series Multi-turn Intelligent Electric Actuator is available in three types: On-Off Type, Intermittent Modulating Type, and Frequent Modulating Type.
- BD-C8 On-Off Type Actuator: Does not have proportional control functionality. Suitable for applications where the operating frequency does not exceed 60 times per hour, continuous operation time does not exceed 15 minutes, and the duty cycle does not exceed 33.3%.
- BD-C8 Intermittent Modulating Type Actuator: Features proportional control functionality. Suitable for applications where the operating frequency does not exceed 60 times per hour (for three-phase models, short-term operating frequency can reach up to 600 times per hour), continuous operation time does not exceed 15 minutes, and the duty cycle does not exceed 33.3%.
- BDM-C8 Frequent Modulating Type Actuator: Adopts a motor capable of frequent starting and stopping. The motor control drive unit uses contactless solid-state relays. By employing higher-speed and higher-precision control chips and components, along with further optimized programs and control circuits, it achieves an operating frequency of up to 1200 times per hour (600 times per hour for single-phase models) under modulating torque, with a duty cycle of up to 50%.
The Frequent Modulating Type Actuator offers higher positioning accuracy than the On-Off Type and the Intermittent Modulating Type actuators, and is well suited to meet the requirements of the actuating unit in closed-loop automatic control loops for most industrial applications.
