Description

Part-turn High Torque Electric Actuator Overview

The part-turn high torque electric actuator BJ/BJM60-IIC series from Bonray redefines reliability and precision for quarter-turn valve automation. Designed in our advanced factory, this actuator serves demanding industries such as petrochemical, power generation, marine, water treatment, and metallurgy. We manufacture each unit with a patented planetary gear transmission—replacing inefficient worm-gear designs—to achieve over 50% higher mechanical efficiency.

Our factory engineers focus on eliminating common failure points: there is no manual/electrical shift mechanism, which drastically reduces maintenance headaches. The part-turn high torque electric actuator delivers output torque from 50 N.m to 3000 N.m and angular travel of 0–90° (or other angles on request). You can rely on this device for both on-off and modulating duty cycles, with options for explosion-proof enclosures (Ex db IIC T4 Gb gas and Ex tb IIIC T130°C Db dust). Whether you operate a refinery or a pumping station, this part-turn high torque electric actuator provides non-intrusive setup, absolute encoding position sensing, and real-time torque monitoring—all without opening the electrical cover. Our factory tests every unit under simulated harsh conditions, including 48-hour IP68 submersion (2 meters deep). You get a robust, future-ready solution that reduces downtime and simplifies commissioning.

What is the difference between BJ and BJM series Part-turn High Torque Electric Actuator?

BJ models handle on-off and intermittent modulation (≤60 starts/hour, 33.3% duty cycle). BJM frequent-modulation models use solid-state relays and a high-duty motor, achieving up to 1200 starts/hour (three-phase) and 50% duty cycle. Choose BJM for precise throttling control. Our factory can help you select based on your application’s frequency.

Features

Our part-turn high torque electric actuator incorporates over 15 engineering innovations. Below we detail each feature from a user-benefit perspective.

1. Full-Chinese / Multilingual LCD Interface

The high-resolution dot-matrix display shows valve position in large digits, plus real-time alarms and work status in plain language (English also available on request). We designed the menu tree to guide operators through setup without a manual. The backlit screen and LED indicators (open/close/mid-travel) remain readable in direct sunlight or dark cabinets.

2. Non-Intrusive Magnetic Control

You operate the actuator via a rotary knob or infrared remote. Hall-effect sensors inside the sealed housing detect magnetic fields. No shafts penetrate the case, so moisture cannot creep in. Our factory uses double-sealed terminal boxes: even when you remove the lid for wiring, a secondary seal protects the main compartment. This achieves true IP68 (2m, 48h).

3. Simultaneous Manual & Electric Operation

We eliminated the troublesome manual/auto shift mechanism. You can engage the handwheel at any time—even while the motor runs. The planetary gear train allows both inputs without conflict. No more broken shift forks or stuck levers. Our field data shows a 90% reduction in mechanical failure reports.

4. Absolute Encoder Position Sensor (BM12)

This patented non-contact sensor reads absolute angular position. No battery backup, no potentiometer drift, no limit switch creep. The valve position remains correct after years of service or months of power-down. Our factory performs a 48-hour burn-in test to verify position retention.

5. Direct Torque Measurement with Absolute Encoding

Unlike inferential torque sensors (current-based), we directly measure strain on the output shaft using an absolute encoding torque sensor. This gives you real N.m values on the display. You can set torque cutoffs for open and close directions independently. The sensor ignores temperature and voltage fluctuations—critical for outdoor or unregulated power supplies.

6. Dual-Seal Enclosure & IP68 Protection

Static joints use O-rings; dynamic joints use skeleton oil seals. The terminal box has a double-seal structure: an inner seal stays closed even when you open the outer cover for wiring. Our factory submerges every waterproof unit for 48 hours at 2 meters. No other actuator in this class offers such rigorous testing.

7. Self-Locking Planetary Gear

The reverse self-locking design prevents back-driving when power disconnects. You don’t need an external brake. This holds butterfly valves and ball valves securely against pressure surges.

8. Multiple Control Modes

  • Local control (point/hold) via knob or IR.

  • Remote switch (dry contact or voltage) with point/hold.

  • Remote analog (4-20 mA) for automatic positioning.

  • ESD (emergency shutdown) with configurable active high/low and override options.

  • Two-wire control (signal-on-open, signal-on-close).

  • Intermittent/pulse control to prevent hydraulic hammer.

  • Fieldbus (Profibus, Modbus, DeviceNet, FF, Hart, etc.) via plug-in modules.

9. Comprehensive Protection Suite

  • Phase sequence auto-correction (no need to swap wires).

  • Phase loss protection (stops motor instantly).

  • Instant reverse delay (prevents mechanical shock).

  • Motor thermal protection (thermostat embedded in windings).

  • Torque overload (adjustable).

  • Valve stuck release logic: temporarily disables torque trip for 0.2–0.3s on open from closed position to break free stuck valves.

10. Dual-Stable Output Contacts

Four configurable magnetic-latching relays retain their state even after power loss. You can map them to: closed limit, open limit, closing torque trip, opening torque trip, moving, mid-position, etc. This feature eliminates the need for auxiliary relays in safety loops.

11. Factory-Installed Options

  • Explosion-proof enclosure (gas/dust).

  • Split version (BJM-IICF): separate controller for high-temperature or high-vibration areas (10m cable standard, longer on request).

  • Extended temperature range (-40°C to +70°C).

  • Special voltages: 110V, 115V, 208V, 230V, 240V, 415V, 50/60Hz.

  • Feedback with 4-20 mA output (load ≤750Ω).

  • Additional non-latching relays (R1–R4).

Model and Type

Our part-turn high torque electric actuator comes in three duty classifications and two series (BJ and BJM). Each type has a structured model code.

1. BJ Series – On-Off & Intermittent Modulating

  • Torque from 50 to 3000 N.m.

  • Suitable for ≤60 starts/hour, 33.3% duty cycle, max 10 min continuous run.

  • Uses electromechanical contactors (standard).

2. BJM Series – Frequent Modulating

  • Rated modulating torque (typically 80% of rated on-off torque).

  • Achieves 1200 starts/hour (three-phase) / 600 starts/hour (single-phase) at 50% duty cycle.

  • Uses solid-state relays and a special high-frequency motor.

  • Provides higher positioning accuracy (±0.5% of span).

  • Ideal for continuous process control (flow, pressure, level).

4. Flange Options (ISO5211:2017)

  • F05, F07, F10, F12, F14, F16. Our factory can machine custom drive sleeves and keyways to match your valve stem (specify when ordering).

5. Split Version (BJM-IICF)

We mount the control electronics in a separate IP68 controller (see factory drawing Figure 5-5). The actuator body remains on the valve. Standard cable length 10 m. This suits ambient temperatures above 70°C or high vibration areas (e.g., engine room, kiln inlet).
