Description

Overview

The quarter-turn ip68 electric actuator BJ/BJM100-IIC series from Bonray is not just a motorized valve operator—it is a smart field device ready for Industry 4.0. Our factory engineers embedded a powerful microcontroller with multiple control algorithms, making this actuator suitable for everything from simple open/close to complex modulating loops with digital fieldbus. You can deploy it in a standalone local panel or integrate it into a Profibus-DP network with dozens of actuators. The key advantage: you configure all parameters—PID deadband, bus node address, torque limit—without opening the cover, using either the local knob or an infrared programmer.

Our factory pre-loads the actuator with standard bus profiles, but you can re-configure on-site. This overview focuses on the actuator’s control flexibility: remote switch (maintained or momentary), analog setpoint (4-20 mA), ESD override, two-wire fail-safe, intermittent pulsing, and digital fieldbus options. We also explain how to set up automatic/manual switching and how to use the built-in data logger for predictive maintenance.

What is the “two-wire control” feature of quarter-turn ip68 electric actuator?

It allows you to control open/close using a single pair of wires. You configure the actuator for “signal-on open, no-signal close” or the opposite. For example, apply 24 Vdc to terminal R-OPEN (with common return) to open; remove voltage to close. This saves wiring in remote telemetry applications. Our factory can also set up “three-wire” with a separate stop signal.

Features

For control engineers, the quarter-turn ip68 electric actuator offers these standout features:

Configurable Control Deadband

You can set the deadband (0.5% to 5% of span) for analog control. This prevents hunting when the process variable is stable. The actuator also includes an “auto deadband” that adapts to valve stiction. Our factory tests show stable positioning within 0.5% for BJM models.

Loss-of-Signal Behavior

If the 4-20 mA input drops below 3.6 mA or goes above 20.5 mA, the actuator triggers an alarm and executes your pre-selected action: stop, go to close, go to open, or hold last position. You can also set a timeout delay (1–60 seconds) before acting. Our factory recommends “stop” for critical processes.

ESD Priority Matrix

You define how ESD interacts with other commands:

  • Override local (yes/no)

  • Override remote manual (yes/no)

  • Override remote auto (yes/no)

  • Override motor thermal trip (yes/no – use with caution)

  • ESD active level: high (24V) or low (0V)
Our factory can also configure a latching ESD that requires manual reset.

Fieldbus Cyclic Data Mapping

Standard objects (per profile):

  • Actual position (0-100%, 16-bit)

  • Actual torque (0-100%, 16-bit)

  • Running status (bit: open/close/stopped/fault)

  • Setpoint (for auto mode)

  • Control commands (open/close/stop/ESD)
Our factory supports extended diagnostics (temperature, starts counter, remaining life) via acyclic services.

Data Logger with 100 Event Memory

Each event records: timestamp (elapsed seconds), event type (e.g., torque trip, limit reached, power on, ESD activation), and value (torque at event). You can download events via Modbus or the front panel. Our factory uses this logger for warranty analysis.

Two-Wire Fail-Safe Logic

You select one of four modes:

  1. Signal-on open (energize to open, de-energize to close)

  2. Signal-on close (energize to close, de-energize to open)

  3. Three-wire (open/close with separate common)

  4. Three-wire with stop (open/close/stop)
The actuator maintains fail-safe position during power loss because of mechanical self-locking. No battery needed.

Position Tracking & Error Alarm

When in auto mode, the quarter-turn ip68 electric actuator compares actual position to demanded position. If the error exceeds a user-defined tolerance (e.g., 5%) for more than a set time (e.g., 10 seconds), it raises a “position deviation” alarm. This alerts you to a stuck valve or worn linkage. Our factory suggests setting tolerance to 3% for BJM models.
