Description

Explosion-proof Part-turn Electric Actuator Overview

When you need a explosion-proof part-turn electric actuator that adapts to your specific process requirements – from simple on‑off isolation to high‑frequency modulation in explosive atmospheres – the Bonray BJ/BJM30-IIC series delivers unmatched versatility. Designed and manufactured by Bonray, this actuator family covers output torque from 50 N·m to 3000 N·m, angular travel 0‑90°, and speeds from 0.16 rpm to 1.0 rpm. The planetary gear transmission gives you over 50% higher mechanical efficiency than traditional worm‑gear designs while eliminating the unreliable manual/electric changeover mechanism. You can order the actuator with a vast array of options: Profibus‑DP, Modbus, DeviceNet, FF, or Hart fieldbus; 4‑20 mA analog control with feedback; ESD override (high or low active); two‑wire control; split configuration for high‑temperature or high‑vibration areas; and explosion‑proof enclosures for gas or dust hazardous zones.

Bonray builds every unit in our ISO‑certified factory. Our engineering team supports custom flange machining, special voltages (including 24V DC, 110V AC 60Hz, 415V 50Hz), extended temperature ranges down to -60°C, and even wireless communication. The IP68 housing (2m submersion for 48 hours) and double‑sealed terminal box protect the internal electronics even when you wire the unit in the field. Whether you automate a butterfly valve in a water treatment plant, a ball valve in an oil pipeline, or a damper in a power station flue gas system, Bonray’s part-turn intelligent electric actuator provides a reliable, easy‑to‑configure solution.

Explosion-proof Part-turn Electric Actuator Features

Bonray packed the BJ/BJM30-IIC series explosion-proof part-turn electric actuator with practical features that simplify installation, reduce downtime, and expand application scope. Below we explain each feature with an active voice.

1. Magnetic Knob and Infrared Setting – No Cover Removal

You adjust all parameters using the external magnetic knob. The knob activates Hall sensors inside the sealed housing. For even more convenience, use the optional infrared setting tool from outside the cover. This non‑intrusive design keeps contaminants out and speeds up commissioning.

2. Patented Planetary Gear Drive

The actuator uses a two‑stage gear plus two‑stage planetary gear train. This design increases mechanical efficiency by more than 50% compared to worm‑gear actuators. The gears are made of high‑quality structural steel, which reduces wear. Because there is no manual/electric clutch, you never suffer from clutch jamming or failure.

3. Absolute Torque and Position Sensing

Bonray’s proprietary absolute encoding torque sensor directly measures output torque without contact. It ignores temperature and voltage variations. The absolute position sensor (BM12 single‑turn) retains valve position through power loss without batteries. You always see the true valve position on the LCD.

4. Double Sealed Terminal Box

The terminal box has an inner seal and an outer seal. When you remove the outer terminal cover for wiring, the inner seal continues to protect the electronics from dust and moisture. This feature proves invaluable in outdoor or wash‑down environments.

5. Extensive I/O and Fieldbus Options

You can order the actuator with up to 4 configurable bistable output relays (magnetic latching) plus a remote indication relay and an alarm relay. For analog control, the actuator accepts 4‑20 mA (or 0‑20 mA, 0‑10V, etc.) and provides 4‑20 mA feedback. For digital integration, add Profibus‑DP V0/V1, Modbus (half‑duplex or full‑duplex), DeviceNet, FF, or Hart. Redundant bus cards are available for critical processes.

6. ESD with Programmable Override

Connect an emergency shutdown signal to terminal 12. You configure the ESD as active‑high or active‑low. You also decide whether the ESD command overrides motor overheating, the local/remote selector knob in “stop” position, or intermittent operation. ESD can force the actuator to close, open, or stay disabled.

7. Two‑Wire Control for Special Logic

Some processes require “signal open / no‑signal close” (e.g., fail‑close with loss of signal) or “signal close / no‑signal open”. Bonray’s two‑wire control mode gives you exactly that without external logic relays.

8. Intermittent Operation for Soft Start/Stop

When you need to avoid hydraulic shock or fluid surging during valve travel, set the actuator to intermittent mode. The actuator moves in short pulses, effectively extending the travel time while keeping motor stress low.

9. Automatic Phase Correction and Phase Loss Protection

The explosion-proof part-turn electric actuator works correctly regardless of how you connect the three‑phase lines. It senses the phase sequence and applies the correct contactor. If a phase drops out, the actuator stops the motor to prevent single‑phase burnout.

10. Valve Stuck Clearing Logic

The explosion-proof part-turn electric actuator temporarily disables torque protection for a short period after motor start (0.2‑0.3 seconds normally, 5‑8 seconds when opening from fully closed). This logic helps break free a stuck valve without nuisance tripping.

11. High Cycling Capability for BJM Series

The BJM frequent modulating type explosion-proof part-turn electric actuator uses solid‑state relays and a specially rated motor. It achieves 1200 starts per hour (three‑phase) or 600 per hour (single‑phase) with a 50% duty cycle. This makes it suitable for demanding pressure or flow control loops.

12. Split Version for Extreme Conditions

When ambient temperature exceeds +70°C or vibration levels are high, order the BJ/BJM-IICF split version. The controller box mounts remotely, and a cable (standard 10m, longer on request) connects it to the actuator body. All control and feedback functions remain identical to the integrated version.

13. Flameproof and Dustproof Enclosures

For hazardous areas, Bonray offers gas explosion‑proof enclosures certified Ex db IIC T4 Gb (suitable for IIA, IIB, IIC gases, T1‑T4, Zones 1 and 2). For combustible dust, we offer Ex tb IIIC T130°C Db (IIIA, IIIB, IIIC dusts, Zones 21 and 22). The flameproof structure uses flameproof gaps, flameproof shaft seals, and cemented joints per GB/T3836 standards.

14. Non‑Volatile Status Relays (Magnetic Latching)

On wiring diagram 620‑623 versions, the S1‑S4 relays are magnetic latching (bistable). They maintain their state even when you remove power. You can configure each relay to close or open upon any combination of: close limit, open limit, closing torque trip, opening torque trip, any torque trip, closing movement, opening movement, running, or any intermediate position.

Explosion-proof Part-turn Electric Actuator Model and Type

How do I order a part-turn intelligent electric actuator for a non‑standard voltage like 415V 60Hz?

Specify the voltage and frequency clearly in your order. Bonray manufactures motors for 415V 50Hz, 415V 60Hz, 230V 60Hz, and many other ratings. We also provide single‑phase 110V 60Hz for North American markets. The minimum order quantity for non‑stock voltages may apply, but we support custom projects.
