Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator Overview

The multi-turn intelligent actuator BD/BDM40-IIC series represents a paradigm shift in valve automation. Unlike conventional devices that require intrusive setup, this actuator allows operators to configure, diagnose, and control valves without ever opening the electrical enclosure. Our Bonray factory engineered this actuator for harsh environments, combining absolute encoding technology with IP68 dual-seal protection. You get a maintenance-free, explosion-proof solution for critical processes in oil, gas, power, and water treatment. The actuator supports multi-turn any angle output, from 50 N.m to 3000 N.m, and when paired with gearbox, reaches 30,000 N.m. Whether you need on-off, intermittent modulating, or high-frequency modulating control, this actuator delivers.

  • Non-Invasive Full-English Menu: A high-resolution dot-matrix LCD displays valve position, torque, and alarms in clear text. You adjust parameters via magnetic switches or an infrared setting tool—no need to remove the cover. This keeps dust and moisture out of the electronics.

  • Dual-Seal & IP68 Protection: Our factory designed the housing with O-rings for static joints and oil seals for dynamic joints. The terminal box uses a double-seal structure, so even during wiring, contaminants stay out. The actuator survives 2 meters underwater for 48 hours.

  • Absolute Encoding Position Sensor (BM18): Forget battery-backed counters. This non-contact sensor retains valve position even after a total power loss. It never needs recalibration.

  • Absolute Encoding Torque Sensor: You directly measure output torque in real time. Set torque protection from 30% to 100% via the menu. This protects both valve and multi-turn intelligent actuator from overload.

  • Simultaneous Manual & Electric Operation: Traditional multi-turn intelligent actuators suffer from manual/electric changeover failures. Our planetary gear design allows you to operate the handwheel even while the motor runs—no switching mechanism, zero failure risk.

  • High-Efficiency Planetary Gearing: One-stage gear plus two-stage planetary transmission improves mechanical efficiency by over 30% compared to worm gear designs. We use high-quality structural steel for longer life and lower wear.

  • Lifetime Lubrication: The factory fills the gearbox with advanced grease. You never need to add oil or grease during the entire service life.

  • Multiple Control Modes: On-site control, remote digital (Profibus, Modbus, Hart, Devicenet, FF), remote analog (4-20mA), two-wire control (signal-on open/signal-off close), and ESD override.

  • ESD Override: ESD signals bypass all local and remote commands. You configure high/low level active, and whether to ignore motor overheat or run intermittently.

  • Comprehensive Protection: Automatic phase correction, instantaneous reverse protection, phase loss protection, motor overheat protection (thermostat in windings), and stall recovery logic.

  • Dual-Stable Output Contacts: Even during a power outage, the configurable S1-S4 contacts retain their last state (e.g., valve open/close or torque alarm).

  • Explosion-Proof Versions: Ex db IIC T4 Gb for gas (Zone 1,2) and Ex tb IIIC T130°C Db for dust (Zone 21,22).

Model and Type

  • BD40-IIC Switch Type Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator: For work frequency ≤60 starts/hour, duty cycle ≤33.3%, continuous run ≤15 min. No proportional control.

  • BD40-IIC Intermittent Modulating Type Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator: Proportional control, same duty limits as switch type but supports analog input.

  • BDM40-IIC High-Frequency Modulating Type Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator: Uses solid-state relays (no contact wear), up to 1200 starts/hour (three-phase) or 600 (single-phase), duty cycle 50%, higher positioning accuracy.

  • BD40-IICF/BDM40-IICF Remote-Mount Multi-turn Intelligent Actuator: We separate the electrical control unit from the actuator body. Connect them via a 10-meter cable (customizable). Ideal for high-temperature or high-vibration areas.

Does the multi-turn intelligent actuator lose valve position on power failure?

No. Our BM18 absolute encoder does not need battery backup. The position remains correct immediately after power restoration.
